How review sessions work

Acorny turns saved highlights into recall cards and schedules them for review.

Review is different from rereading your highlight list. The goal is to practice recovering an idea from memory, then use your rating to decide when the card should return.

Daily review

Open Review to practice a batch of cards. Some cards are due because you have seen them before. Some cards may be newer highlights that Acorny introduces so your library does not stay invisible.

When a session starts, focus on one card at a time. Read the prompt, pause, and answer from memory before checking the source text. If you immediately reread the original highlight, the rating will be less accurate because recognition is easier than recall.

Rating buttons

After answering a card, rate how well you remembered it. Higher ratings tell Acorny the card can wait longer before appearing again. Lower ratings tell Acorny to bring it back sooner.

Use the buttons as scheduling feedback:

If recall felt…	Choose…	Why
Missing or wrong	Forgot	The card should return soon.
Slow or partial	Hard	The idea is not stable yet.
Mostly correct	Good	The card can wait longer.
Immediate and clear	Easy	The review interval can grow more.

The exact interval can change as Acorny improves review behavior, but the meaning stays the same: lower confidence means sooner review, higher confidence means later review.

Caught up

If Review says you are caught up, there are no more cards in the current review batch. You can come back later or import more highlights.

Being caught up does not mean your library is empty. It means Acorny does not currently have cards due for the active review session. Check the Highlights page if you want to confirm an imported or saved highlight exists.

What enters review

Highlights can enter review from the browser extension, file imports, reader app sync, or connected sync providers. Each import guide explains what details Acorny can keep from that source.

For best review quality, save highlights that contain complete ideas. A long passage with five claims may create a weaker card than one short passage with one clear claim.

If review feels wrong

If cards are missing, first confirm the highlights exist in the Highlights page. If they exist but are not due, review scheduling may be the reason. If they do not exist, start with Highlights are not showing up.
